Paul D. “Pete” Finney, 80, passed away at 7:30 p.m. Friday June 1, 2012 at Good Samaritan Hospital, Vincennes, IN. He was born October 25, 1931 in Crawford County, Illinois just south of White Oak Church. He was the son of Harold R. Finney and Eulah (LeFever) Finney.

Pete attended Indiana State Teachers College (now Indiana State University) and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Science from LeTouneau Technical Institute. Upon graduation in 1954, he was inducted into the United States Army, primaily serving at White Sands Proving Grounds. He began working at Cortelyou Machine Shop while in college and was subsequently empolyed on a full-time basis after being discharged from the Army. In 1970, he took a position as a machinist at Marathon Oil Company and retired in 1990. In his spare time, he operated his own machine shop in Oblong. Pete was a member of Oblong First Christian Church, Oblong Jaycees, Oblong Sports Boosters and the Yellow Bow Archery Club, Palestine, IL.

Pete married Betty J. Hart on July 31, 1954. She survives. Also surviving is a son and daughter-in-law Brody and Keena Finney of Melvin, IL;a brother and sister-in-law, Jim and Lulu Finney, Oblong, IL; an aunt, Monica Harris, Hardinville, IL; two nieces , one nephew and several cousins.

Pete was preceded in death by his parents.

 Burial will be in Oblong Cemetery with the presentation of the American flag to the family by Oblong American Legion Post #219.
